460 animals in Western Ukraine saved every year
In August 2008 we provided technical equipment to two more universities in Western Ukraine. Dr Corina Gericke, scientific advisor at Doctors Against Animal Experiments, coordinated the project on the spot. By buying one video projector, 3 notebooks, 2 printers and some computer programs, a total of 460 animals will be saved from a cruel death, including 225 frogs at the Department of Biotechnology of the University of L'viv and 150 rats, 60 guinea pigs and 25 rabbits at the Department of Pathophysiology of the University of Ivano-Frankivs'k.
Dr Corina Gericke and Prof Olha Shved, Head of the Department of Biotechnology at the University of L'viv, signing the contract.
Biologist Dimitrij Leporskij from Kharkiv coordinates our project in Ukraine and helps with the translations. From left to right: Dimitrij Leporskij, Dr Nataliya Marintsova (lecturer), Dr Corina Gericke, Prof Olha Shved, Aelita Kzychkovska (assistent).
We regard it as important to buy the equipment in a local store in order to be provided with a guarantee and on-site service.
In the staircase of the Medical Faculty in Ivano-Frankivs'k hangs a huge portrait of Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936). The Russian physician and physiologist carried out cruel experiments on dogs and other animals.
Dr Corina Gericke and Prof Ljubomyr Zayaz, Head of the Institute of Pathophysiology of the Medical Faculty of the University of Ivano-Frankivs'k, signing the contract.

These rats are still doomed to die. But thanks to our project, cruel experiments, including causing a heart attack in rabbits, paralysis in rats and allergic shock in guinea-pigs will no longer be conducted in the future.
In this lecture room, medical students will learn about various pathological conditions by means of interactive computer programmes projected onto the wall.
We would be delighted to receive support for our projects in Eastern Europe >>
