Call for applications: Doctors Against Animal Experiments supports animal-free research projects with 20,000 euros

Doctors Against Animal Experiments is proud to announce the 2025 Herbert Stiller Prize (HSP) for animal-free research. Our NGO is dedicated to advancing innovative, human-based science and is offering a research grant of 20,000 euros, generously provided by our donators. This grant aims to support groundbreaking animal-free biomedical projects. Researchers are invited to submit their proposals by May 31, 2025

The Herbert Stiller Prize, initially awarded seven times between 1990 and 2011, was revived in 2019 thanks to earmarked sponsorship funds, now occurring biannually. Dr Dilyana Filipova, Scientific Officer at Doctors Against Animal Experiments (DAAE), highlights a critical issue: "Despite the immense potential of modern, animal-free research methods for medicine, they receive disproportionately little support. DAAE has been conducting its own research for years with the following result: In Germany, in direct comparison, over 99% of public research funding is allocated to animal experiments, and less than 1% to innovative, animal-free methods." This disparity underscores the urgent need for a shift in funding priorities to advance more relevant and ethical research methodologies.

The Herbert Stiller Prize supports innovative, animal-free research projects in medicine and biomedicine for a period of two years. The funding amounts to 20,000 euros. Applications are invited for human-based methodologies, including advanced in vitro models like multi-organ chips and organoids, human clinical studies, epidemiological investigations, and computer-based methods for predicting toxicity and simulating physiological processes.

Applications can be submitted until 31 May 2025. Further information can be found here >>
